are drink calories the same as food calories?

ericaaa_d asked:

are food and drink calories the same?

like, if i had a glass of chocolate milk containing 75 calories one day,
and had a small piece of bread and a tangerine containing 55 calories the next day, would i gain weight? it’s less calories, but it’s food instead of a drink.

this is my first time posting here, but i’m diet OBSESSED so expect more about silly things like this from me.

    Need to lose weight?

Yes they are the same, thats why soft drinks are considered “empty calories” because it’s liquid, you are generally still “empty”. Keep up the good work.

    Lose weight, Lose Fat

you cannot gain weight from 75 or 55 calories.
drink calories are the same as food calories, as in 50 drink calories = 50 food calories. doesn’t matter. calories are calories. any way they are consumed.
it’s better to eat your calories because it fills you up faster. that’s why a lot of people say it’s bad to drink regular sodas and those high-calorie starbucks drinks.

    Lose weight, Lose Fat

Calories ARE calories, but you also want to be aware from where those calories are coming. Are they coming from protein/carbs/fats? Are you eating too many carbs? So in that respect, not all calories are created equal. Your body processes protein different than carbs and fats. So be careful you aren’t overloading in one particular area when you shouldn’t be.

    Fastest Way to Lose Weight

Calories from food are the same as calories from beverage. Just that solid food need time to digest so you have the feeling of full.

    Exercise and Weight Loss

As far as weight loss/gain, calories are calories. The nutrition provided by foods is the only difference. No calorie is better/worse than another as far as weight is concerned. 400 calories of carrots is the same as 400 calories of chocoloate.
