I know the the Ball Python species is a thick, short, stouted breed of snake – and it’s good if their “fatter”.
So, how to I know when fat is *too* fat?
My male is about 2 and a half feet in length, and his thickest girth is about 6 – 6 and a half inches.
He eats/drinks well and according to the veterinarian – a very, very healthy Ball.
But, what is too obese?

Fastest Way to Lose Weight
As long as you feed it every 5-7 days a mouse/rat about the same size of it’s girth(big around) then you shouldn’t have this problem. If you have him seen by a vet then you shouldn’t have to worry because he will let you know.
As for what it looks like I don’t really know because I’ve never seen one but I would think that if I did happen to see one, I would know because it would be much lager than the ones I’m use to seeing.

Slim down – remove fat
If you can see white skin in between his scales, that’s a sign that he’s overweight (except right after he’s eaten when there’s still a lump, of course).

awesome question
although we all care/love our ‘babies’ not many think of this – I mean it is true with people we know… but unless looking at the same age range, size of the same species of snake over and over daily hard to ’see’ possibly…
it is in the scales – if they do not lay flat and smooth, can see the skin beneath….
the food should be cut back on — not with held — till weight is lowered

Q: How often should I feed my Ball Python?
A: For the first two-three years (18-36 inches), I would suggest an appropriate size meal every 7-10 days. My adult males eat good sized meals about every 3 weeks, adult (breeding) females every 2-3 weeks. (Feeding
one more – just found – info on obesity and this quote;
Always consult a vet when solving dehydration, Obesity, or any other problem because every case is different. Ball pythons are a great pet but be ready to make a 20 year commitment when you get one they will grow 5-6 feet long as adults and weigh 20 pound if you can?t handle that you won?t be able to handle a python. That may seem harsh, but I hate seeing snakes in the humane society because the owner didn?t know it would grow that big that is irresponsible. But to the responsible snake owner I say good luck and I hope this article helps.
Losing weight without starving yourself
feed him one mouse/rat every 7 days.
you know if they are obese as the skin between their scales becomes visable as it stretches due to obesity
