Do I need to count drink calories when counting my meal calories?

jaxblack asked:

I’m taking the National Body Challenge from discovery.com and it keeps track of how many meal calories you intake for the day. So I was wondering if I have to keep track of what I drink too, such as juices and teas.

    I think so.

But you could get rid of those extra calories by drinking the amazing, zero-calorie liquid called water instead of juice and tea =)

    Fastest Way to Lose Weight

Yes, total calorie intake is important and people tend to have a significant amount of calories from drinks (soda pop, alcohol etc) and some people find they lose a decent amount of weight when they quit drinking high calorie drinks. So it is important to include all of your calories and not just solid food calories.

I’m not familiar with the National Body Challenge, so I’m not sure of their rules. In general liquids can really add an extreme amount of calories that people sometimes forget to include.

YES. Many people struggle to control their calorie intake because they forget to count the calories from the beverages they consume. If you drink a 200-calorie glass of juice, that’s exactly the same as eating a 200-calorie snack.

So yes, you should definitely include your beverages when calculating your meal calories.
