What should my calorie intake be while I am trying to lose weight?

barefootbabee asked:

I am 5′4 and 147 lbs. I would like to get down to 125-130 over the next few weeks. I am not going to starve myself, I just enjoy food too much. I will be walking 3 times a week, for a least an hour. What should my calorie intake be? I always see a mention of a 2,000 calorie a day diet, is that to maintain your weight? I kicked the fiber up in my diet too. Any suggestiona on the best way to do this…. and the healthiest?

2,000 calories is based on a diet for men. If you are a woman, that should be 1,800 calories/day. If you are a woman trying to lose weight, you should drop that down to 1,500 calories/day – 1,600 calories//day.
I would add resistance training to your routine, and up the number of days that you walk to 5 or 6. As you get used to that routine, increase your intensity by jogging.
Eat a balanced diet of fruits and veggies, lean protein, low-fat dairy, whole grains, and lots of water.

it will take more than just a few weeks to lose 17 pounds effective and healthily. the best way to find out your best calorie intake for yourself is to look at the way you eat now, count those calories and then take multiply it by .75 and go with that many calories.

2000 a day is the average daily intake for women so you will need to dip under this for weight loss but it is best to make changes you can maintain for the long term. I tried the 2 bowls of cereal a day with dried fruits for a 2 weeks, which was good until I started eating properly again.
Keep a check on your fat intake too and make sure a large proportion of your diet is fruit and vegetable. Walking is supposed to be the best way to reduce your weight without building up more muscle than you might want. It has to be at a speedy pace to show this benefit though.
    Good luck.

    How to Lose Weight

2,000 calories is probably too much for you to lose weight. Try the principles of the 3 hour diet. meals of about 400 calories each and 2 snacks of about 100 calories each. Try spacing them 3 hours apart and keep walking.
