What are common causes of knee pain in obese people?

Jonny asked:

I ask this because I am obese myself and have frequent pain in my right knee. Someone told me that it could be gout, but I thought that usually occured in the joints of toes and fingers. I am 21, 6′1″, and 330 pounds.

    Lose weight fast

the reason it hurts is because all the weight that your legs have to support everyday will start to wear on your bones and cartalidge….I’m not tryin to be mean at all cause I use to have the same problem and my doc told me why…

The best to options would to either be to start a diet to lose weight, or do leg exercises to strengthen the muscles in your legs… Your still young so I doubt any permanent damage has been done, but if it goes untreated you will prolly end up in a wheelchair by 30.

The likely cause of the pain is the stress of your weight on the joint, ligaments, and muscles around your knee joint. They are becoming inflamed and damaged from the weight of your upper body as you walk and the constant grinding of bone against the socket. If you are older you may have a lack of synovial fluid to keep the joint lubricated. Arthritis can also set in to weakened and damaged joints due to constant inflammation. Ibuprofen is a very good pain reliever for bone pain.
